AVICII FOREVER: THE TRIBUTE

From 2011 to 2015, Avicii lit up the MainStage — now, ten years later, Tomorrowland celebrates his legacy.

Prior to his untimely passing in 2018, Tim Bergling made an impact unlike anyone else on hundreds of thousands of fans as well as the sound of electronic music in general. Now, ten years after Avicii’s final Tomorrowland performance, the festival is honouring the late, great producer with a tribute installation called Avicii Forever.

Located between the Melodia Stage and the Freedom Stage, Avicii Forever is only accessible on reservation, allowing fans the chance to remember him in peace, reliving his legacy through unique images and visuals. And what a story it has to tell: Avicii’s bond with Tomorrowland began in 2011 with his surprise MainStage debut of ‘Levels’.

He then returned yearly up until his final appearance in 2015, leaving an everlasting mark on the Holy Grounds. Three years after his passing in 2018 came a first tribute to him, when People of Tomorrow held up a gigantic Swedish flag in the crowd.

It was a celebration of his life and music, and especially a eulogy to his message of love, which keeps uniting people to this day and earned him a place in the heart of most, if not all, People of Tomorrow. It’s this feeling of unity and love that is remembered at the Avicii Forever Tribute first and foremost.

In order to get a feeling for how Avicii has touched people’s lives, we asked a few fans coming out of the Tribute about their favourite Avicii song, and what they would say to him if he was still with us today.

Kristof

“I was here for all of Avicii’s sets and I’d like to remember him as a young guy who was full of life when he was in a good place. I think for a lot of people, he was Mr. Tomorrowland MainStage.”

Hariette

“The first song that I heard from Avicii was ‘Hey Brother’, and it made me fall in love with him. It also reminds me of how music is meant to bring people together, and he definitely did.”

Mirka

“I was at Coachella when Tim passed away. We were on the campsite when we got the news and we were devastated. I wish I had a way to thank him for everything.”
