Michael, I last mowed my lawn last week. Before that I rented a dethatcher for $55.00 and played that silly game. You know, a machine that looks like a mower but it's twice as heavy, twice as noisy, and probably twice as lethal should you lose control of it.
As you know, Your Mother-in-law and I live in a desert community, and we have one of only about five lawns in the entire 200 homes in our tract.
Currently I'm fighting the clover that has taken up residence in the lawn and I'm not at all sure that I'm winning.
Soon it will be the cinch bugs that so up here every year around this time. These little creatures burrow into the lawn and begin eating the roots. The first sign is when a patch of grass turns gray, then black, and finally yellow. Left to their own devices cinch bugs will do a real number on your lawn.
I figure I've still got a few good years left in me, so I'll keep doing my own lawn.
As for you, it's only about 9 or 10 years until you can pay Gillian to do it. Or one of her boyfriends.

This is my favorite post yet. I last mowed my lawn about ten years ago when we moved into our house. I had this whole plan about how I would do it all myself. Getting a gardner was some of the best money I've ever spent! Of course
